Termonfeckin Celtic’s senior men continued their late season resurgence with an enthralling 3-2 win at home against Cootehill Harps.
Manager Darren Rice would have wanted the squad continue with the intensity which earned them all three points against promotion chasing Duleek last time out. However - Cootehill didn’t read the script and were 2-0 up inside the first 17 minutes. TCFC were slow out of the blocks and Cootehill made them pay.
As the first half progressed TCFC grew in to the game and it became a contest. Clear chances were few and far between until the 36th minute when centre half Aaron Walsh rose highest to meet a Karl Brannigan corner. 2-1 at half time was a fair reflection of the game and gave TCFC something to change in the second period.
The second half started as the first ended with Termonfeckin just about getting on top in the middle of the pitch but not being able to create clear cut chances. The equaliser came in the 63rd minute when Cathal O’Reilly launched a trademark long throw in to the Cootehill box - Aaron Walsh was there again to direct a header past the keeper.
Termonfeckin now wanted to complete the job and started to pile on the pressure - it wasn’t long until Brannigan scored his first and Termonfeckin’s third - his strike on 72 minutes was worthy of winning any contest, latching on to a flick on from Ciaran Hartnett, Brannigan took one touch and then stuck an unstoppable shot in to the top corner. What followed was an end to end last 20 minutes and both sides had opportunities to add to the scoreline - however it finished 3-2 to the home team.
